Driving electric is an important step on the way towards healthier cities and cleaner air. At Volvo On Demand, we also believe car sharing can help us win back time, space, and money in our lives previously taken up by privately owned cars. So thank you for sharing!

  • There's no start button; the car is ready to drive when you get in. Just put the gear in Drive or Reverse.

  • Remember always to plug in the charging cable when you finish your reservation.

  • Charging during your trip is not included in the price. Download the ABRP or ChargeFinder app to find your nearest charging spot.

Starting and driving

How do I reserve an electric car in the app?

Simply choose Polestar 2, C40 or XC40 Recharge under the "what model" tab when making a new reservation. If it doesn't matter what model or motor you drive, choose Any Car.

How much battery does the car have when I pick it up?

We make sure you have enough battery for your booking. If you have booked a longer trip, we guarantee that you have at least 80% charged battery at the start of the booking. For shorter trips, if we believe that you can reach your destination with less battery, you may receive a car with less than 80% battery, but still enough to get you where you need.

By a short journey, we generally mean a trip that is shorter than 8 hours.

How do I start the car?

There's no start button; the car is ready to drive when you get in. Just put the gear in Drive or Reverse.

How do I unplug the charging cable?

  1. Unlock the car.

  2. Open the charging lid and press the round button to release the cable.

  3. Do not unplug the cable from the charging station.

  4. Place the cable by the charging station. You'll find an extra cable in the trunk of the car should you need to charge the car during your trip.

What do I do with the charging cable?

At some of our stations the charging cable should be brought with you, at others the cable is fixed. For those cases you'll find an extra cable in the trunk of the car should you need to charge the car during your trip.

What if the cable is missing?

Chat with Customer Care in the app and report the cable as missing so we can replace it.

How do I charge the car?

Press the charging lid to open it, then attach the cable. To unplug the cable, you need to unlock the car first.

Polestar 2, C40 and XC40 Recharge support both AC and DC charging. You'll find a Type 2 cable or a Schuko cable in the car. The GPS inside the car will point out charging spots along your route if you put in your destination.

Is charging included?

At the moment, charging is not included in the reservation price. Instead, the price per kilometer is lower for electric cars. Download the ABRP or ChargeFinder app to find your nearest charging spot.

How far can I drive on a fully charged battery?

The driving range depends on several factors such as temperature, driving style, terrain, traffic conditions, etc. A fully charged Polestar 2, C40 and Volvo XC40 recharge would normally give a range of 320-450 km depending on these factors.

You can see your battery status on the dashboard when the car is on. You'll also be able to see the driving range in the built-in navigation app.

Ending your reservation

What should I think about when ending a reservation with an electric car?

Make sure the car is charging before you end your reservation.

If the car is not charging, the app will remind you to plug the cable in. If charging doesn't work, please go to "Having trouble charging?" in the app and let us know before ending the reservation.
